Comedian Samay Raina is currently embroiled in a controversy stemming from his YouTube show, India’s Got Latent. The issue arose when guest Ranveer Allahbadia posed an inappropriate question to a contestant, leading to widespread backlash. In response, Raina has deleted all episodes of the show from his channel and expressed his willingness to cooperate with ongoing inquiries.
Amid the controversy, Avika Gor’s episode in India’s Got Latent gets viral where Samay jokes about her TV show Balika Vadhu, Samay said, ‘Balika Vadhu mein she was the OG Balika, the OG Anandi.’ He further asked, ‘How long did you do the show.’ Avika replied, ‘I did the show for 2 years, I was 8 years old.’ Samay says, ‘Accha, as you turned 10, they removed you? Too old for a Rajasthani wife.’ Leaving Avika in splits, he even continued the joke by singing the title song of the show.
The controversy has led to increased scrutiny of Raina’s future performances, including show cancellations and potential police attendance to ensure non-offensive content. Raina, currently on his “Unfiltered: North America Tour 2025,” has not publicly addressed the controversy, focusing instead on his ongoing performances.
This situation has sparked discussions about the boundaries of humour and the responsibilities of content creators in the digital age. Following the backlash over his remarks on the show “India’s Got Latent,” YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia issued a public apology. In a video shared on his social media platforms, he stated: “My comment wasn’t just inappropriate; it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I’m just here to say sorry. Many of you asked if this is how I wish to use my platform; obviously not. I had a lapse in judgment. Wasn’t cool on my part.”
Despite the apology, the controversy has led to significant consequences, including legal actions and public criticism. An FIR has been filed against Allahbadia and others associated with the show for promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit discussions. This situation underscores the importance of mindful content creation and the potential repercussions of crossing societal boundaries.
