NEW DELHI: Amid nationwide uproar over Ranveer Allahbadia’s remarks on India’s Got Talent, the Maharashtra Cyber Cell has summoned Rakhi Sawant to record her statement on February 27.
Earlier, on February 24, popular YouTubers Ashish Chanchlani and Ranveer Allahbadia appeared before the cyber cell to provide their statements.
Meanwhile, stand-up comedian Samay Raina had requested an extension until March 17, but the Maharashtra Cyber Cell denied his plea, stated IG Yashasvi Yadav.
The controversy erupted after Ranveer Allahbadia appeared as a guest on India’s Got Latent and made an inappropriate remark to a contestant during a segment.
The so-called joke sparked massive backlash online, with netizens slamming Ranveer, Samay Raina, and others associated with the show, accusing them of “promoting vulgarity and obscenity online.” Guests on the episode also included Ashish Chanchlani and Apoorva Mukhija.
Following the outrage, multiple complaints and FIRs were lodged against Ranveer, Samay, and others. The Maharashtra Cyber Cell announced that around 30-40 individuals involved in the first six episodes of India’s Got Latent would be summoned for questioning.
In response to the backlash, Ranveer issued an apology, admitting to a “serious lapse in judgment.” Meanwhile, Samay removed all episodes of India’s Got Latent from his YouTube channel.
