Hundreds of people are breaking their Ramzan fasting every day at the mass Iftars organised by Madin Academy here. Among them are professionals like doctors and lawyers, teachers, office staff, and even bystanders of patients in various hospitals.
Although almost all mosques offer Iftar facilities, the mass Iftar being offered by Madin Academy throughout the month of Ramzan has become a hit from day one. “It is largely because of the convenience. The food is not provided outside the mosque. And, the general feel is like attending a social feast, rather than an Iftar in a mosque,” said Sakeer Hussain, a social worker.
Madin Academy officials expect the number of attendees to increase as the month of Ramzan progresses. The Iftar will culminate on the 27th eve of Ramzan. “We expect to provide Iftar for around one lakh people on the 27th eve of Ramzan,” said Khalid Saqafi, one of the organisers.
Madin Academy is providing biriyani and fruit, apart from beverages like juice and tea. “We have chosen biriyani because of its convenience. It’s a solid meal. It can also be prepared and supplied more easily than other dishes,” said Mr. Saqafi.
According to Madin Academy chairman Syed Ibrahim Khaleel Bukhari, mass Iftars serve as a powerful symbol of unity and camaraderie. “Beyond satiating the hunger of those in need, mass Iftars embody our dedication to fostering communal harmony, promoting humanism, and celebrating the universal values of compassion and empathy,” said Mr. Thangal.
