The members of the Hassan district unit of Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS) staged a protest in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner in Hassan opposing the Forest Department’s efforts to evict farmers cultivating the land at Adavi Bantenahalli in Belur taluk.
The protest was led by KPRS district president H.R. Naveen Kumar. The protesters said that the Forest Department officials were digging trenches in the agricultural land without issuing notices to farmers, who have been cultivating the land for decades.
“The farmers were granted the land by the Revenue Department. Even then the officials are trying to evict them forcibly by digging trenches. The State government should hold a joint survey by the Revenue and Forest Departments to resolve the issue,” said Mr. Naveen Kumar.
The protesters also submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner in this regard. Before staging the protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, the farmers staged a demonstation in the village.
