Google is expanding its “voluntary exit” programme, initially offered to employees in its Platforms & Devices division, to now include its People Operations (HR) team. This expansion allows eligible employees within HR to opt for severance packages if they choose to leave the company.
Google is extending this pregramme to its HR department as part of a broader effort to streamline operations and improve efficiency, as per 9to5google.
In an email to employees on Tuesday, Google’s Chief People Officer, Fiona Cicconi, detailed the broadened voluntary exit programme, which is open to US-based HR employees. The program is part of the company’s effort to streamline operations and improve efficiency within the People Operations team.
Google’s People Operations division is responsible for a wide range of functions, including employee benefits, hiring, compensation, and fostering a positive work environment. The recent restructuring aims to align the department with the company’s evolving needs and focus on maintaining high-performing teams, improving efficiency, and innovating HR practices.
Google confirms voluntary exit programme for PeopleOps team
A Google spokesperson confirmed the move in a statement to the publication.
“To support our People Operations team’s innovative work ahead, we’re opening new roles and offering a voluntary exit program with severance for their US-based employees,” the spokesperson was quoted as saying.
The voluntary exit programme was first introduced in January for staff working on Android, Pixel, Chrome, and Nest products, following a restructuring and merger of operating system and hardware teams. The announcement was made by senior vice president Rick Osterloh through an internal memo.
The company explained that the decision comes in response to the restructuring last year.
“This comes after we brought two large organizations together last year,” the spokesperson said, adding, “there’s tremendous momentum on this team and with so much important work ahead, we want everyone to be deeply committed to our mission and focused on building great products, with speed and efficiency.”
