Police accused of illegal custody, torture by Coimbatore woman

A woman from Theethipalayam in Coimbatore petitioned the City Police Commissioner on Wednesday, alleging that her husband and two others were wrongly implicated in a sandalwood felling case.

The complainant, V. Sathya, alleged that her husband Vijayan was falsely implicated in a sandalwood felling case a year ago. She claimed that police a few personnel took him into custody on Tuesday and forced him to admit involvement in a sandalwood felling at Vadavalli police station limits.

She alleged that Ranganathan of Theethipalayam and Ponnusamy of Navakarai were also taken into custody along with Vijayan and were subjected to torture.

The police refuted the allegations.
