Two houses suffer damage in accidental explosion

Two houses suffered damage following an accidental explosion at Vitla Madnoor village in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district on Tuesday afternoon

Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police N. Yatish said explosive substances meant for stone quarrying were stocked at a place and the personnel had gone for lunch. The substances got activated accidentally and they exploded, he said.

Window panes and other parts of the houses were damaged.

A case was registered under Explosive Substances Act for negligence in the use of explosive substances, he said.

According to reports reaching Mangaluru, tremors following the explosion were felt in houses within a four-kilometre radius.
