YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia on Tuesday admitted before Maharashtra cyber police that he made a “mistake” with his controversial remarks on comedian Samay Raina’s YouTube show, India’s Got Latent.
On Monday, Allahbadia appeared before Maharashtra Cyber to record his statement regarding the case. According to officials, he admitted that his comments were inappropriate and called them a “mistake.” He also accepted that he used specific words that led to the controversy, reported PTI.
Allahabadia on the show had made controversial remarks about parents and sex leading to widespread outrage and multiple FIRs against it. Supreme Court also lashed out at Allahabadi last week while granting him interim protection from arrest.
Coming down heavily on him, the Supreme Court had called his joke “condemnable and dirty.” “Have you got the licence to speak these kinds of things,” the top court had said.
Allahbadia also told investigators that he had attended the show as a favour to Raina, whom he considers a friend. He claimed he did not receive any payment for his appearance.
Along with Allahbadia, YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani was also called in for questioning. On Tuesday, Maharashtra Cyber recorded the statement of social media influencer Apoorva Makhija, who is also named in the case.
The investigation is ongoing, and the authorities have summoned actor Rakhi Sawant for questioning on February 27, as she had also appeared on the show. Police are yet to record the statement of Samay Raina.
Meanwhile, the Assam Police have launched a parallel investigation into the case, adding more legal trouble for Allahbadia and others involved.
