Champions Trophy: Young century stabilises NZ innings as Pakistan desperately search for 4th wicket – Pakistan

The much-awaited International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy tournament finally took off today as hosts Pakistan won the toss and opted to field against New Zealand at Karachi’s National Bank Stadium.


Match summary by Abyan Amir: After the loss of 3 wickets before the 20 over mark, New Zealand have consolidated with opener Young anchoring the innings with his score at 89 not out at the end of 30 overs. He survived a close run out call in the 29th over when Babar hit the stumps directly from mid-on.

Rizwan brought his opening pacemen back into the attack, looking for another breakthrough with both Shaheen and Naseem returning for their spells. However, New Zealand have kept the scoreboard moving along with regular boundaries, moving the score to 148 for the loss of 3.

After losing the hosting rights to the 2009 Champions Trophy, Pakistan was also ruled out as co-hosts of the 2011 World Cup.

All seven teams, except India, will play in Pakistan for the current event in the three major cities.
