RAIPUR: Nine Maoists including four carrying a cumulative cash reward of Rs 23 lakh, surrendered before security forces in Bijapur district of Bastar division on Tuesday. Among those surrendered were three women cadres, one of whom carried a cash bounty of Rs 8 lakh and was member of PLGA battalion number 1.
Bijapur police said that the women Naxals among those carrying bounty on their information were identified as Laxmi Madvi alias Khuto, Pulli Irpa alias Tara and Bhime Madkam while one Ramesh Karam among five cadres was a rewardee.
Khuto was a People’s Liberation Guerilla Army (PLGA) Battalion number 1 party member, while Tara was an Area Committee Member (ACM) under the Andhra-Odisha Border (AOB) division of the banned outfit, police officials said. Khuto carried a bounty of Rs 8 lakh, while Tara, Madkam and Karam carried Rs 5 lakh each.
Madkam was active as an ACM of the Jagargunda Area Committee and Karam was an ACM under the South Sub-Zonal Bureau/Doctor Team, officials informed.
Around 40 Maoists have surrendered, 56 cadres have been gunned down and 101 Naxals arrested in Bijapur this year.
Police stated that the cadres were inspired and influenced with the new rehabilitation policy for surrendered Naxals and the benefits that residents get under Niyad Nellanar scheme of the govt. The Niyad Nellanar launched in Bastar region aims to ensure basic amenities and benefits of welfare projects reach Naxal-affected villages and its tribal people.
